Los Angeles police have closed a missing person case, including Yuriana Juliana “Juli” Pelaez Calderon, an activist who allegedly disappeared on June 25th.
However, her whereabouts and the circumstances of her loss remain unknown.
Supporters held a press conference on June 30th, calling her loss of digitping an invitation. They claimed that Calderon was taken from the South LA Fast Food parking lot by an unmarked vehicle that did not identify himself, perhaps a “bounty hunter” man.

According to Calderon, she was able to make two calls using a borrowed phone while being held in a warehouse near the US-Mexico border. She said she is under pressure to sign a self-abolition document.
In response, the Department of Homeland Security quickly dismissed the story as a “horror” and stated that ICE did not use bounty hunters and that Calderon was never arrested or detained by federal agents.
LAPD, which has begun an investigation into the missing person, has confirmed with KTLA.
Police did not confirm whether Calderon currently has federal custody or disclosed his current location.
Attorneys at the Immigration Defence Corps Law Center working on the case believe she is in custody at an ice detention facility in Mesa Verde (Riverside County). This information is said to have come from the Mexican consulate.
The lawyer also said that a mistake in Calderon’s name could have prevented her from appearing in the ICE detainee’s locator system. The next step is to arrange a legal visit to hear your Calderon account directly.
The Mexican Consulate and DHS did not respond to KTLA’s request for comment.
Calderon, who has lived in Los Angeles for over 20 years, is not a US citizen. If she has federal custody, it remains unclear why she faces, or what legal consequences she faces.
