The male suspect was shot dead by police Tuesday morning after a standoff in a backyard filled with “excessive” amounts of personal property and debris.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers chased the foot of an armed suspect in the 25,700 block of Bellport Avenue in Harbor City around 10:25am.
When the suspects were lost, officers brought in K9 units to establish boundaries and assist in searching, LAPD said. K9 officials were able to determine that the suspect, who has not yet been identified, is likely inside a shed in the backyard of the residence, and SWAT was called to assist.
“The backyard has put a lot of challenges on the executives due to its wide range of personal property and debris making it difficult to move,” LAPD said in X.
Police detail that they did not surrender immediately after the suspect was shot and killed, but were eventually taken into custody and taken to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds.
The incident remains under investigation and no further details were available.
