LAPD officials fatally attacked a man on Tustin with a drunk hit and run, prosecutors say

According to Orange County prosecutors, Los Angeles Police Sergeant fatally attacked a 19-year-old pedestrian while driving drunk, failing to stop or call police.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, 40-year-old Carlos Gonzalo Colonel is currently facing a criminal charge that has suffered major physical injuries and a blow to DUI criminal charges, causing death.

Imanor Salvador Gonzalez was killed in the crash. Prosecutors said they were walking down the street early on February 1st.

Coronel is “accuses him of not stopping the truck to see what he was hit,” the prosecutor wrote in a statement. “He didn’t call 911. That morning, the two on their way home from work discovered that Gonzalez was “lying in the middle of Nisson Road.” ”

Coronel, a resident of Buena Park, was previously convicted of DUI in 2011 and had not filed a dispute against alcohol or drug DUI.

Hours after Coronel was accused of fatally attacking Gonzalez with his pickup truck, Coronel drove to his girlfriend’s house, according to prosecutors. When she drove him home the next day, he is said to have told her to take a route that avoided the hit and run position. That same day, he also searched online to see if fatal hits and runs were being reported in the area, and confirmed that the crime scene at the Tustin Police Station was investigating the hits and runs.

“Our law enforcement officers are entrusted with the highest level of public trust and it is pointless to leave a man dead on the street after an officer with a vow to protect and serve hit him while driving under the influence of alcohol,” Atti. Todd Spitzer wrote in a statement. “Imanor was loved by his family, and he didn’t deserve to lie his story in the middle of Dark Tustin Street while the police officers who attacked him drove.”

It was not immediately clear whether Coronel was still employed as a LAPD officer. LAPD did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

Coronel was sentenced to three years of probation, 80 hours of community service and an alcoholic program in 2011 after suing a dispute against the DUI, according to Orange County Superior Court records. After being arrested for a fatal hit and run in February, the case resumed for a probation violation. He appears to have been sentenced to 30 days later.

Prosecutors say Coronel faces a maximum sentence of six years and eight months if convicted in all numbers.
