Police on Wednesday identified the man who was shot by Northridge officers over the weekend and revealed he “pointed a firearm” at them while trying to escape.
It was not immediately clear what officers urged to launch a fire or whether the weapon had been recovered after the Sunday evening incident in the 9300 block of Corbin Avenue.
Police were initially called to the 20,000 block of Prairie Street in nearby Chatsworth, after being attacked at about 7:45pm with a deadly weapon call.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Romario Iraheta in a news release on Wednesday, was found by a Los Angeles Police Department air unit trying to escape on a skateboard.
“Iraheta continued to escape, and the pursuit of his feet continued, during which he pointed to the officers to the firearms, leading to a shooting (OIS) involving the officers,” the news release said.
Part of the incident in which he was caught up in a cell phone camera was shown by officers chasing the suspect on foot through a strip mall parking lot. One police officer is seen running for a cover as he runs towards the rear of a Korean barbecue restaurant for a fire.

“Iraheta was shot, but he continued running and stopped after a while and was taken into custody,” police said Wednesday.
Iraheta was hospitalized in stable condition for treatment, and an absentee booked for assault with a deadly weapon by a police officer with a firearm.
Police said a black steel handgun carrying a large-capacity magazine and a live round had been recovered and reserved for evidence.
