On Friday, the state entities cleared the end of nine fire-accepted public water systems to deliver safe and clean drinking water to customers, which was announced Friday.
The state’s Water Resources Management Board said Friday that Russ Phrase Water Company had lifted its notice. This marks what marks officials called “a key milestone” in Los Angeles County’s recovery from the January wildfires.
“After this year’s devastating La Firestorm, the state has focused on lasers to help communities recover and rebuild,” said Jana Garcia, California, for Environmental Protection, in a statement. Today’s milestone would not have been possible without the commitment and partnership with the local system and the state’s waters board.”
The state’s water board issued nine systems, with formal orders requiring benzene contamination screening across fire-affected areas, public notices of drinking water advisories, and pollution repairs.
The recommendation was in effect until state waterboard staff confirmed sampling and field verification that contaminant levels met all state and federal regulatory requirements.
Wildfires have caused infrastructure damage, power loss and pollution due to smoke, ash and combustion materials.
“The California Mutual Water Company Association appreciates the hard work of the state’s Water Commission leading the restoration of water services after Atadena members suffered so much damage during the Eton Firestorm,” Karina Cervantes, managing director of Calmuturis, said in a statement.
