Mayor Karen Bass’s fire of Los Angeles Fire Department chief Christine Crowley could be overturned by the LA City Council to win Crowley’s files and appeals.
According to the city’s charter, Base has the authority to remove most department heads, such as fire chiefs, without city council approval.
However, Crowley also has the right to file an appeal within “10 calendar days of deletion.”

In the meantime, Bass has appointed retired LAFD vice chief Ronnie Villanueva to serve as interim fire chief.
Villanueva holds various positions across the department with “decades of experience in the management of thousands of operational and support members of LAFD.” He retired from LAFD just seven months ago.
Bass said a nationwide search will be conducted to find a permanent replacement to guide the Los Angeles Fire Department with “inputs” from firefighters and LA residents about what they want to see at the next chief. .
