For the 45th year in a row, Hollywood’s Laugh Factory has opened on Christmas Day, providing thousands of free meals to the homeless and those in need.
Owner Jamie Masada and a team of volunteers, including stars like Tim Allen, Tiffany Haddish and Craig Robinson, hosted the annual event, which included food, comedy shows and holiday cheer.
More than 2,000 types of food were served throughout the day, as well as live performances to keep spirits high.
“I’m lucky to have been asked to do this,” comedian Tim Allen told KTLA’s Gene Kang. “Feed everyone who needs food.”
Among those in attendance was military veteran Ned Moore, who reflected on the importance of kindness during the holidays. “The spirit of Christmas is about caring for people all year long, not just for one day,” he said.
In addition to food and laughter, the children were given free toys, bringing smiles to the faces of many young people. “Seeing the joy on the faces of the kids and their parents, just having a place to go is a blessing,” said Laugh Factory President David Fuhrer.
For one couple, the event turned into a memorable holiday date night.
“The atmosphere here is great,” participant Madeline said. “The food is delicious and the comedy shows are fun.”
Many of the volunteers return year after year and say the event truly embodies the spirit of the season.
“Laughter and helping people go hand in hand,” volunteer Ben Varady said. His sons Jacob and Robert added, “The best thing to do is help the community.”
