As thousands of fans head into downtown Los Angeles on Friday to celebrate the Dodgers’ World Series victory, local law enforcement officials are urging fans to enjoy the parade responsibly.

The calls for safety came after the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 on Wednesday night to win the World Series for the first time in six games, throwing some celebrations into disarray. At least 12 people were arrested in connection with “sometimes violent and hostile celebrations” in the city of Los Angeles on Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The “violent and hostile celebration” also included some looting and the burning of an MTA bus.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Thursday urged Dodgers fans to keep Friday’s celebrations peaceful.

“I want to once again encourage Angelenos to celebrate responsibly,” Bass said. “Violence of any kind will not be tolerated.”
