Eight California airports, including LAX and Hollywood/Burbank airports, have been awarded a total of $81.3 million in grant funding to improve aviation infrastructure,” U.S. Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff announced Wednesday.
“These grants will allow us to make important investments in airport infrastructure that will improve the travel experience for millions of visitors and travelers, improve safety, create more jobs and boost the local economy,” Senator Schiff said in a statement.
The following California airports will receive funding:
Los Angeles International Airport will receive the largest share of funds and set aside $22.8 million to install a full noise mitigation measure for 400 homes affected by airport noise exposure. Van Nuys Airport is expected to receive $19.45 million to rebuild the existing 3,138-foot taxiway connector that has reached its end of service life. The grant, which is part of the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program, funds some of the final stages, including reconstructing the 1,788 feet of pavement. San Diego International Airport will receive $15 million to acquire and install a full noise mitigation measure of 250 homes affected by noise from the airport’s operations. Hollywood Burbank Airport, also known as Bob Hope Airport, was awarded $7.92 million to build a new 105,816 square yard terminal apron. The funding will support the final stages of the project and cover the construction of 74,071 square yards. Chino Airport will receive $1.05 million to support the design phase of the project aimed at rehabilitating a 500-foot taxiway G. The project will include extending taxiways H and L in 1,800 feet, and constructing new 1,800 feet of taxis K, S and T to meet current standards.
