Exclusive: R-Texas Sen. John Cornyn plans to introduce a bill that will disgrace President Donald Trump’s presidential order to rename the national park by a 12-year-old Houston girl who was allegedly killed by two illegal immigrants.
The bill is being raised to make it more difficult for future administrations Republicans or Democrats to rename the Jocelyn Nungarray National Wildlife Reserve.
“Joselyn Nungarray was taken from this world too quickly at the hands of a brutal murderer who was illegally in the United States due to President Biden’s open border policy, and her legacy deserves forever,” Cornyn told Fox News Digital. “I’m proud to be able to lead this law side by side. [Republican Texas] House of Representatives [Brian] Babin is making sure President Trump has renamed the sanctuary to Jocelyn Nungarei National Wildlife Shelter.

In a joint speech to Congress in March, Trump announced the renaming of the 39,000-acre sanctuary known as the Anajuac National Wildlife Reserve along the Texas Gulf Coast.
In April, authorities held a renaming ceremony for the park.

“One thing I learned about Jocelyn is that she loved animals so much. She loved nature. Beyond Galveston Bay, where Jocelyn lived in Houston, we will find a magnificent, peaceful, peaceful, peaceful sanctuary, 34,000 acres of untouched, peaceful sanctuary, for all the creatures of God at the edge of the rim of the Gulf of America,” Trump said.
Cornyn’s bill will codify the park’s new name into the law, and create a process that makes it even more difficult.

“Ms. Nungarei loves animals and given her proximity in her hometown of Houston, it would be fitting that the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge would be renamed her honor,” the bill text said.
Cornyn said he learned about Nungarei’s love for nature, knowing about her family.
Nungarei’s murder, like others involved in suspected illegal immigrants, became a clash point in the 2024 presidential election as Trump campaigned on a platform to illegally deport American criminals. Nungarei, who lives in Houston, said she was lured and sexually assaulted in June 2024 by 26-year-old Franklin Pena and 22-year-old Johann Martinez Lengel before her death under the bridge in June 2024.
