Dear reader,
We are proud to announce the next evolution of the LA Times and engage our audience better. Today, we are releasing new features to enhance and improve our digital products, integrating live streaming videos, podcasts and AI generation capabilities into a seamless experience.
La Times Studios creates video streaming content every day with news, features and other programming that interests the community. Available directly on the Los Angeles Times homepage, this content includes an ongoing live camera feed from iconic Los Angeles locations, from Hollywood to Malibu.
Today we are beginning a new effort to make it easier for our readers to distinguish opinion-driven content from news reports. Content written from a perspective may be labeled voice. This helps to strengthen the separation between news and what isn’t. Voices are not strictly limited to the content of the Opinion section. It also includes news commentary, criticism, reviews and more. If the piece is taking a stance or written from a personal perspective, it could be labelled as a voice.
It also releases Insights, an AI-driven feature that appears in some Voices content. The purpose of the insight is to provide readers with an instantly accessible way to see a wide range of AI-enabled perspectives, along with the positions presented in the article. I think providing a more diverse perspective will support our journalistic mission and help our readers navigate the issues facing this country.
We added these new features to encourage audience engagement and interaction with our times and our content. I believe that the media is evolving, and the times are good for leading the way.
We will remain faithful to our mission statement.
“We strive to take into account different perspectives to inform our views, especially when they do not align with us. Our hope is to lay out discussions and analysis that will help our readers navigate complex questions, or at least give them a well-considered way of thinking about the issues that day.”
We invite your thoughts and I hope you will be helpful and enlightening.

About La Times Insights
La Times Insights provides AI-generated analytics for audio articles that provide a perspective on the issue. This may include a line of opinions, editorials, commentary, and more.
Insights analyses content that analyses the content to identify where the expressed views may fall on the political spectrum. It also provides an annotated summary of the ideas expressed in the work, along with various views on topics from different sources.
The Insights analysis is not created by the editorial staff of the Los Angeles Times and does not judge the quality of journalism or the perspectives it supports. Insights is solely intended to give readers additional perspectives on voice articles that provide perspective. AI is an experimental and evolving technology. If you see an error, please report it to the Insights page.
