A liberal activist group in Colorado is suing the state’s sheriff, holding him personally liable if he cooperates with ICE agents in any way, including with President-elect Trump’s mass deportation plan or the deportation of illegal immigrants. I’m warning you that I’ll wake you up.

In a letter to Colorado sheriffs signed by ACLU Colorado Enforcement Director Deborah Richardson and Legal Director Tim McDonald, the ACLU states that when Colorado law enforcement officers respond to ICE requests, warned of serious personal consequences, including for ICE detainees. Government agencies will no longer have to make dangerous arrests in public places.

The group compared it to President Trump’s plan for mass deportations of Japanese to concentration camps in the 1940s, and said law enforcement agencies that supported these efforts could face personal legal fines in the tens of thousands of dollars. He said there is.

MacDonald and Richardson told the Colorado sheriff that they “did not engage in large-scale immigration raids with ICE or other federal agents or used their authority to detain people solely at the request of ICE.” Doing so will expose you and your staff to personal liability.”

“A Colorado law enforcement officer who causes a violation of rights protected by the Colorado Constitution shall be liable for up to $25,000 in damages and attorney fees, including potential personal liability, and his or her employer. (defined to include elected sheriffs) shall be obligated to the public “to satisfy the full amount of any irrecoverable judgment,” the letter said.

The ACLU of Colorado also harshly criticized Aurora police for working with ICE to detain more than a dozen immigrants in a violent home invasion and kidnapping incident linked to the Venezuelan gang Torren de Aragua (TdA) in December. did.

Gang members reportedly broke into the apartment of a Venezuelan immigrant couple in the Edge at Raleigh Apartments in suburban Denver, tied up, beat, stabbed, kidnapped and hospitalized the victims. The assailants also allegedly stole jewelry from the victim.

MacDonald said the Aurora Police Department’s raids on TdA-related offenders “exceeded its authority under Colorado law,” adding, “These types of actions cause harm and distress to vulnerable communities and “There is a danger that residents will be deprived of their rights guaranteed by the state constitution.” State Law. “

“We have taken legal action against law enforcement agencies that violated Colorado law and will take legal action again if necessary,” McDonald said. “We stand ready to respond to violations of the civil rights of our neighbors and prevent constitutional violations of the rights of Colorado families and communities.”

In response to the letter, Roger Hudson, a city council member near Castle Pines, Colo., told Fox News Digital that “an organization whose sole purpose was to protect the rights of Americans has now become a group of non-citizens, many It’s unfortunate that they chose a citizen.” They are in our country illegally over the rights of hard-working American taxpayers. ”

“Colorado taxpayers are tired and working hard to pay for the high cost of failed liberal policies, not just on immigration, but on housing, education, transportation, infrastructure and the economy,” he said. Change is coming, and it starts with President Donald Trump’s inauguration.”
