A Democratic candidate in the Wisconsin Supreme Court competition is a local sheriff with a long history of promoting sanctuary and sanctuary immigration policies in an ad that touts criminal judges and her opponents as “too extreme.” promoted support for the Opposing Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Take it from the sheriff,” Dane County Sheriff Calvin Barrett criticised candidate Brad Schemmel, a Republican allied candidate, as “extreme” for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and candidate Susan It said in a recent 15-second ad paid by Crawford. “Let the rapists walk freely,” claiming that includes a backlog of rape kits that Shimmel pushed back.
Barrett faces sharing his own criticism of illegal immigration crimes, which his office has a history of refusing to work with Ice, particularly of policies labelled as crime soft.
Earlier this year, Barrett retracted the county from the state’s criminal foreign national assistance program, which ICE uses to find criminally illegal immigrants in prisons, earning praise from the ACLU.

“At this point, we are no longer participating in the SCAAP grant program, due to recent changes in management and what we understand, hear and hear about our community here in Dane County.” Barrett told Channel 3000. time.
Barrett also vowed that his department would “not be actively involved in any kind of summaries, immigration enforcement of any kind.”
ICE listed Dane County as a “uncooperative” jurisdiction in its June 2024 report. Barrett’s office released individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants as being bailed after committing a violent crime in some cases.
In 2024, two Republican lawmakers from Wisconsin issued a statement requesting response from Barrett, Alejandro Jose Colonel Zalate, a suspect in Venezuela Street gangster Trende Lagua. And physically assaults the woman and her child.

“Sanctuary policies undermine both the rule of law and the safety of the American community,” Matt O’Brien, director of the Research Bureau of Immigration Reform Law Institute, told Fox News Digital. “To begin with, states, counties, and municipalities cannot simply ignore federal laws they dislike, but that’s exactly what the sanctuary jurisdictions do.”
“Secondly, law enforcement officers who are severe in crime and take serious measures to protect their communities seize any opportunities available to neutralize threats to public safety. Police Chiefs of the Sanctuary’s jurisdiction And the sheriff actually do the exact opposite, and in doing so they encourage criminals to live in the very community where they are simply responsible for protecting them. Sheriff and crime strict – Because the essence of being jurisdiction over the sanctuary is to give priority to illegal alien bad guys.”
Another sheriff in the ad, former Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney, was also publicly pushed back against the ice attack.
Shimmel, who was approved by more than 80 Wisconsin sheriffs and previously served as state attorney general, will face Crawford in the April 1 election, replacing retired Judge Anne Walsh Bradley. He serves a 10-year term in the state’s Supreme Court.

Shimmel, a current Waukesha County judge, has been supported by top Republican donors, Wisconsin GOP, including Chicago Cubs co-owners Joe Ricketts and Elon Musk’s Building America’s Future PAC. It’s there.

“In November, Wisconsin voters chose common sense over the far left agenda. Susan Crawford, a dangerous Democrat, wants to become a liberal activist from the Wisconsin Supreme Court bench. President Trump is hoping to become a liberal activist. America’s first agenda,” Wisconsin GOP executive director Andrew Iverson told Fox News Digital in a statement.
“Brad Simel has Wisconsin’s most vulnerable protection records, while Crawford has a record of being chased off criminals, and is on the back with anti-ice and return-politics Democrats. On the 1st of the month, Wisconsin voters flock to the ballot box Voting for Simel – to save Wisconsin and save America.”
