Federal authorities confirmed a U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) attack in Ventura County on Tuesday.
“The FBI Los Angeles and partner agencies have implemented an immigration enforcement project in the Ventura County area today to support Ero Los Angeles,” the agency announced on X.
In response, local lawmakers Julia Brownlee (D-Ventura County) and Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo County) issued a joint statement, with recent immigrants being called “cruel”, “reckless” and “unconscious.”
“We received disturbing reports of ice enforcement measures in Ventura County, including Oxnard, Port Funeme and Camarillo, where agents reportedly stopped the vehicle, lodged near the school and tried to enter agricultural property and facilities on the Oxnard Plains,” read the statement. “These actions are completely unfair and deeply harmful, raising serious questions about agency tactics and respect for its legitimate processes.”

Of the multiple videos posted to social media earlier in the day, one was shared to Instagram by 805 UndCufund, a nonprofit that helps undocumented residents with short-term financial relief, with ice agents in bright yellow shirts asking questions next to Camarillo Field along Laguna Road. The group stands next to a vehicle without a black mark. It is unclear whether the car belongs to unidentified workers and federal officials.
“Hora?” The woman filming the interaction asks the group from afar, and in Spanish what federal officials are doing with the workers. It is said that this took place at 5:30am.
“Be careful with your own business,” the ice officer responds to the woman and tells her to come back. “They know their rights, they’ve been here for 30 years, they get it. We’re at work.”
The woman replied, “We don’t want people to be separated from their families. I don’t think you’ll get it,” and the officer replied, “Are you legally here?”
She goes back and asks, “How are you asking me about it now?” and he replies, “Because that’s my job, I’m an immigration officer. Are there any documents here?”
When a woman says she doesn’t need to answer her questions, the ice agent says, “Fine, so you’re right.” He and the other officers then return to restraining the workers.
In a statement, Central Coast lawmakers announced how immigration officers are recently targeting outdoor workplaces, including farms, construction sites and the service industry.
“ICE should focus on individuals who pose a real threat to public safety, rather than terrorizing the entire community with a wide and unfair sweep,” their statement said. “This is not a way for you to keep people safe.”
