Several parts of Southern California are bracing for high winds and fire warnings, and local school districts are taking precautions.
The Los Angeles Unified School District announced Tuesday that it will take precautions, including limiting outdoor activities for students at schools affected by high winds.
The district said in a social media post that it would secure any objects that could become airborne and kept away from students and staff.
“The District will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed. We would like to thank all Los Angeles Unified employees who work tirelessly every day to keep our schools safe. ”LAUSD said in the post.
LAUSD schools are being asked to immediately report any broken or fallen tree branches.
Construction work that may generate dust will also be suspended while a high wind warning is in effect.
The Santa Monica-Malibu School District also announced Tuesday that Malibu schools would be closed as a precaution due to high winds.
Schools in the Santa Monica area will remain open.
Malibu Elementary School, Webster Elementary School, Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School will be closed. “We continue to monitor the situation with our partners, including the City of Malibu and Southern California Edison, and will keep you updated on our reopening plans,” Superintendent Dr. Antonio Shelton said in a statement. “We share your concerns and our thoughts are with the Malibu community during this difficult weather.”
