Long Beach will host its first open container event, where people can drink outdoors.
The event will take place in the city’s first entertainment zone, part of a city-approved pilot program that allows temporary open container areas during special events.
The event, known as the “EZ SIP Launch Party,” will take place along the promenade from 2pm to 6pm on August 2nd between Broadway and 3rd Avenue. Participants can expect drinks that can be purchased from local businesses participating in live music, family-friendly activities, and beer garden-style settings.
Certified Entertainment Zone Events are marked as “EZ SIP Events” to distinguish them from other gatherings.
“The pilot is about bringing people together and recreating downtown through safe, community-focused events,” said Austin Metieur, president and CEO of the Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DTLB Alliance), which organizes the initiative. “These EZ SIP events will also serve as stepping stones for global moments like the FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.”
Santa Monica and San Francisco also approved the Entertainment Zone thanks to a state law of 2023.
