Long Beach small businesses are getting a head start on the holiday rush, hoping to attract more customers ahead of the busy shopping season.
Some stores along Atlantic Avenue in North Long Beach are already busy, with stores doing everything they can to boost sales for the holiday season.
“It’s been tough to keep going, but we have great customers and they’re incredibly loyal,” said Lisa Luna of The Better Half Boutique.
Luna, one of the store’s three employees, said she’s grateful the boutique has been lucky, with foot traffic and online business sales increasing since the pandemic. But she says it’s always a concern for small businesses.
“We all have feats that we wish we couldn’t do. What if the season wasn’t so busy,” she said.
In addition to concerns about the success of sales, the shopping district has also been hit by crime and vandalism.
“Actually, a friend of mine owns a barber shop down here, and it got broken into,” said Daniel Garay, who lives in the area.
“Everyone is struggling,” he said. “Small businesses are struggling, and if we can stay in business here, we’ll be helping them and helping our community.”
Black Friday and Small Business Saturday remain important days for these businesses, and they want customers to come not just then but year-round.
