Long Beach teens

The 15-year-old was arrested Thursday on suspicion of fatally shooting a homeless man at a camp in Long Beach, authorities said.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to a call in the 2600 block of East Ocean Boulevard before 2am on November 24th. Upon arrival, we found two men near a beach playground camp, suffering from bullet wounds in our upper body.

The first man was taken to the hospital where he recovered, but the second was declared dead at the scene. He was later identified as 51-year-old Frank Thugs, according to the LA County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police said teenagers whose identity is not publicly disclosed will be held responsible for both shootings. The motives and circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, police said.

The teen was arrested in Long Beach and booked on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bail in the juvenile hall in Los Padrinos.

Detectives will present the case to the LA County District Attorney’s Office in order to file payments next week.

In California, it must be heard in a juvenile court for a 15-year-old who was charged with murder. This is because it came into effect in 2019 and prohibits minors aged 14 and 15 from being prosecuted in adult courts, regardless of the seriousness of the crime.

If convicted of murder, the juvenile could be held in prison until the age of 25.

The victim’s brother, Anthony Suggs, told the Long Beach Post he was grateful for the arrests, but it’s sad to learn how young the suspect is.

“Now you’re going to have another family going to go through a few things,” he told the outlet.

Frank Thugs is from Indiana and lived with his wife and children until about eight years ago when he became homeless while working on mental health and substance use issues, his brother told the Post. He lived on the streets of Las Vegas and later Los Angeles, Anthony Suggs said.

Another 15-year-old boy was arrested earlier this month in connection with a fatal shooting in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The teen is suspected of killing 21-year-old Brandon Villarreal after the pair began debating outside the Long Beach Grand Prix on April 12 at about 5:50pm.
