What do you know

The gold fire in the San Bernardino National Forest was estimated to be around 350 acres late Monday afternoon. The gold fire burned more than 300 acres in the mountains in San Bernardino County, north of Lake Big Bear. The Rosa fire began Monday in the San Bernardino National Forest between Anza and Pinion Pines. Over 4,400 wildfires have been reported in California this year, up from 3,800 at this point last year. This year, more than 221,100 acres have been burned, well over 83,200 acres until July 2024, according to Calfire Statistics.

Brush fires are on fire in the mountains of San Bernardino County and in the counties of Riverside and Santa Barbara as Southern California faces the warmest temperatures of the season.

Wildfires have a layer of empty sky hazes in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, contributing to deterioration in air quality. Parts of the area can expect high temperatures and triple-digit temperatures from the 90s by mid-week, as firefighters work to increase containment lines.

Over 4,400 wildfires have been reported in California this year, up from 3,800 at this point last year. This year, over 221,100 acres have been burned, well over 83,200 acres until July 2024. The average over the five-year period of that time is 4,100 fires and 125,700 acres of combustion.

Gifford Fire in Santa Barbara County

The Gifford Fires in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, the state’s largest active fires, are estimated at over 72,460 acres.

Evacuation orders and warnings were effective with a 7% containment. Highway 166 was closed between the 101 highway and Newkuyama.

Tuesday began Friday afternoon near 166 Highway 166 northeast of Santa Maria. The cause is under investigation.

Rosa Fire, Riverside County

Another brush fire began Monday in the San Bernardino National Forest between Anza and Pinion Pines. Rosa Fire burned about 1,200 acres and forced the closure of Highway 74.

A fire that began Monday at 12:25pm on the north side of the Santa Rosa Truck Trail highway has been ordered to evacuate mandatory. Evacuation orders have been issued for nearby communities adjacent to Pinion Pines on either side of the highway in the area south of Alpine Village.

Six Cal Fire Air Tankers and three water-dropping helicopters ran in the fire, slowing their progress at first. On Monday afternoon, the wind picked up through the Mountain Pass, inciting flames.

Both sides of Highway 74 were closed between the junction of Highway 371 in Anza to the west and the area around Bighorn Golf Club, just south of Palm Desert.

Golden fire near Big Bear

A brush fire occurred in the Big Bear area Monday morning, expanding to more than 300 acres at the start of the warm week in Southern California.

The gold fire burning over the steep, rugged terrain of the San Bernardino National Forest was estimated at around 350 acres on Tuesday and was not contained. The fire began in an inaccessible part of the Holcomb Valley, north of Lake Big Bear.

Evacuation was effective at Holcomb Campground.

The structure is not threatened. Details about how the fire began were not available immediately.

Firefighters were attacking flames in the mountains of San Bernardino County. There, large feathers of dark smoke were seen around for miles.
