The US President mourned the death of Pope Francis, who served as Catholic Church leader for 12 years on Monday following the announcement of the Pope’s death.
“Pope Francis rests in peace!” President Donald Trump said in a post on True Society on Monday. “May God bless him and all who loved him!”
Cardinals University elected to serve as Pope in March 2013, following Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Francis was born under the name Jorge Mario Bergolio and was originally welcomed by Argentina.
Pope Francis, who was hospitalized in February due to complications derived from bronchitis and pneumonia, passed away on Monday in Casa Santa Marta, Vatican.
Vice President J.D. Vice President J.D. Vice President, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, met with Pope Francis on Sunday in one of the Vatican Hotel response rooms hours before the Pope’s death. Vance admitted his visit in Monday’s X post, sharing a link to one of the Pope’s transcripts of the Pope’s 2020 Homily.
Pope Francis died at the age of 88, according to the Vatican.

“My heart is directed at millions of Christians around the world who love him. I was happy to see him yesterday, and although he was obviously very sick,” Vance said in a post on X on Monday. “But I always remember him for the sacred people below whom he gave in the very early days of Covid. It was really so pretty, as God lets his soul rest.”
Trump also signed an executive order on Monday to fly all US flags with semi-staff on all public buildings and grounds, all military and naval stations, and all naval ships to remember Francis. The order also applies to all embassies, ministers, consulates and other facilities in the United States, including military facilities, naval ships and stations.

Barack Obama
Pope Francis met with former President Barack Obama at the Vatican in March 2014. The two met again the following September during Pope Francis’ visit to the White House. After visiting the White House, Francis also visited New York City and Philadelphia.
Obama issued a statement Monday morning in praise of the Pope for his leadership.

“In his humility and his gestures, he embraces illness, serves the homeless, and washes the feet of young prisoners – he shook us from our complacency, reminding us that we are bound by God and each other’s moral duties,” Obama said Monday morning.
“Today, Michelle and I are grieving with everyone in the world, both Catholic and non-Catholic, who drew strength and inspiration from the example of the Pope,” Obama said. “We must continue to keep his call to ‘Please do not stay on the bystanders of this living march of hope.’ ”
Donald Trump
Trump met Pope Francis during a trip to the Vatican in 2017, and later told reporters there was a “great meeting.” But the two have remained at odds with each other over Trump’s border policies for the past decade.
“If you’re just thinking about building a wall, wherever you are, you’re not a Christian, not a bridge,” Pope Francis said in February 2016 as Trump pushed the campaign’s trajectory to build a border wall and crack down on illegal immigration.

In response, Trump said: “For religious leaders, a person’s faith is dishonorable.”
Pope Francis routinely issued similar statements, writing to the Catholic bishop of the United States in February, expressing concerns about the Trump administration’s plan to expel the U.S.
“In many cases, deporting people who have left their land due to extreme poverty, anxiety, exploitation, persecution, or severe deterioration of the environment undermines the dignity of many men and women, as well as all of their families, placing them in a certain state of vulnerability and vulnerability,” Pope Francis said in the letter.
Joe Biden
According to how the conference reads, former President Joe Biden, the second Catholic US president, visited the Vatican in October 2021, where he and Pope Francis discussed topics such as climate change and advocacy for the poor.
Biden had met Pope Francis on several other occasions, including during his 2015 Pope’s visit to the United States.
Biden also met with Pope Francis at the G7 Leader Summit in Apria, Italy in June. There, the two discussed the ongoing Israeli-Hamas War, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the Ukraine-Russian conflict.

Biden, who awarded Pope Francis the Presidential Order of Freedom in January, described Monday as a “consequential” leader, “Pope for Everyone.”
“He was different from the person who came before him,” Biden said in an X post Monday morning. “Pope Francis is remembered as one of the most consequential leaders of our time, and I am better than I knew him. For decades, he never stopped his mission to serve the most vulnerable people in all of Argentina and to serve the poor.
