A satellite above Earth is providing a unique view of multiple fires burning in the Los Angeles area this week.
Several satellite videos shared by Colorado State University’s Cooperative Institute for Atmospheric Research and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show flames and large plumes of smoke seen from space.
Several wildfires have been burning in the Los Angeles area since Tuesday, fueled by strong winds, the largest being the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire.
Together, the two fires burned thousands of acres and destroyed hundreds of buildings and homes. Five people died in the Eaton fire.

The first video from satellite shared Tuesday night shows the Palisades Fire burning in western Los Angeles County. A large plume of smoke can be seen billowing towards the Pacific Ocean.
A second video shot from space shows a night view of the Eaton Fire burning in an inland area just northeast of Altadena and Pasadena.

The latest video shared by CIRA/NOAA shows two fires continuing to burn throughout Wednesday with smoke from the Eaton Fire across much of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The wildfires are being fueled by dry vegetation in the hills and strong Santa Ana winds, with some wind gusts reaching nearly 160 miles per hour.
The worst of the wind is expected to subside by Wednesday night, but windy and dry conditions could continue for several days.
