Jails in Los Angeles County and other states are upgrading their security after a recent surge in violence against staff and inmates.
The California Department of Amendment (CDCR) announced on Saturday that it will place a Level IV high security section within the facility in the remodeled program.
The upgrade comes after numerous incidents in state prisons, including the murder of an inmate in Louisiana County on Friday.
According to the CDCR, the program will affect the following agencies: Calipatoria State Jail, Centinera State Jail, California State Correctional Facility, High Desert State Jail, Los Angeles County, California, Los Angeles County Jail, Ruhr Creek State Jail, Pelican Bay State Jail, California State Jail-Sacramento, and Salinas Valley State Jail.
“A comprehensive investigation is ongoing and the revised program will remain until the assessment is completed,” the CDCR said in a statement.
The department said the programme will only apply to Level IV housing units, unlike lockdowns.
Those affected by the measure are officials who maintain access to critical services such as medical care, legal procedures and other important appointments.
However, according to the CDCR, the meals will be delivered directly to the residential unit, with showers and all other movements being carried out in a controlled manner.
Additionally, phone calls, Viapath tablet phones and visits will be temporarily restricted.
