The Los Angeles City Council voted 11-2 on Tuesday to support expanding policies that prevent homeless people from sleeping in certain public spaces.
The ordinance prohibits people from sitting, lying down or maintaining their belongings in designated areas, but now extends to Super Street and Dearing Avenue in Chatsworth.
Local business owners are concerned about an increase in crime data due to many arrests related to drugs and trespassing, and believe it is due to homelessness.

Wednesday morning video showed a small camp in the area, with one man saying that officials were already talking to him and others who live there.

“We’re going to do absolutely nothing,” Stephen Reed said. “Hopefully, if it does, they’ll house us.”
Inappropriate living in camps is supposed to receive advanced notifications before camps are cleared and help them find shelters, but Laist cited the report saying it “had no effect on avoiding camps and maintaining the community in accommodating people.”
Some councillors and housing activists view the ban as a cruel crackdown on poverty, but supporters praised it as a step towards making schools and neighbours safer, Laist reported.
