Crews at the Los Angeles Fire Station launched a fire at a Los Angeles Recycling Yard Sunday morning.
Flames were first reported at a recycling yard at 5487 West San Fernando Road around Atwater Village around LAFD around the country.
The fires had originally threatened several compressed natural gas trucks, fire officials said in their first update on the situation.

As firefighters began to gain control of the flames, smoke wafted over the 134 highways, and drivers were advised for a while to avoid running down ground roads through the area. A video posted to the Citizen app shows a swirl of black smoke swirls on the road as the fire intensifies throughout the garden.

The LAFD is expected to take time to clean up due to “operation of materials involved in this fire.” Drone units were requested to assist with the visual intelligence gathering, and LA’s Water and Power Department was dispatched to the scene to assist with threatened power lines and transformers.

LAFD is also in touch with Metrolink officials to ensure security and operational safety on nearby train tracks, the department said at 11am.
It is unknown as of early Sunday afternoon when the flames began.
The recycle yard is in the exchange between San Fernando Road, just east of the Los Angeles River, and the 134 and 5 highways on the LA-Glendale border.
