Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass signed the city’s budget on Friday.
The newly signed budget will store urban services such as street repairs, traffic management, parks and library programming maintenance. It also helps bring new jobs to the Los Angeles police, according to the mayor’s office.
“City Council leadership will identify funding for another 240 recruits within 90 days,” Bass ‘Office said in a press release. “After LAPD employs 240 officers, the money will be spent.”
Funding for key services such as street repairs, traffic management, parks and library program maintenance were also included in the budget, which, according to the mayor himself, was not easy.

“This budget is being delivered under extremely difficult conditions: certainty from Washington, explosion of liability payments, unexpected rises in costs, lower than expected revenue,” Mayor Bus said. “This budget continues to actively fight the homeless crisis and invest in critical urban services such as emergency response, street repairs, parks and libraries. We would like to thank you for working with us to make Los Angeles safe for everyone and helping us with this agreement.”
According to Mayor Bass’ office, the city’s budget includes:
Repair of over 1,000 city positions at risk of layoffs Pothole repair, traffic management, positions supporting future housing developments, positions supporting more new investments in the Los Angeles Fire Department, funding more paramedics and other resources, and funding for all pledge officers and firefighters, library and parks and recreational facilities emergency maintenance hours maintained the LA Convention Center planning and coordination staff, and capital infrastructure projects for funding for improvements in the Sepulveda Basin.
