There are plenty of Saturdays: Flag Day, President Donald Trump’s birthday, and the 250th birthday of the US Army, a massive military parade in Washington, DC, and nationwide protests against the president and his administration’s policies.
A “No King” demonstration is taking place on Saturday, including in the Los Angeles area. The biggest demonstration is expected to occur in downtown LA. This has been severely affected by violent protests against the federal immigration attack that occurred last week. There are also at least a few dozen other demonstrations planned across SOCAL.
The civil unrest following the ice attack sparked political discourse between California’s government Gavin Newsmu and President Trump Mayor Karen Bass and President Trump — Los Angeles officials have not taken a risk when it comes to planned demonstrations on Saturday, including Downtown, the West Side and the San Fernando Valley.
Base was joined by Chief Jim McDonnell of the Los Angeles Police Department on Saturday morning at a press conference to outline the agency’s preparatory measures. But first, she pleaded for a peaceful demonstration.

“I’d like to call you as people march today. Please don’t give the administration any excuses to intervene,” Bus said. “Let’s show the world the best of Los Angeles and our country. It’s in stark contrast to provocation, escalation, and violence.”
“I want to thank those who have peacefully protested… Those who commit violence are not doing so on behalf of immigrants, and they don’t make mistakes, we have zero resistance to property damage, officers and people who are at risk,” she continued. “We don’t even try because we don’t allow violence, vandalism or other dangerous behavior.”

She said “the eyes of the world are in Los Angeles,” and Angelenos “should not be defined by Washington’s actions.”
“Let’s show the world what our country is: freedom, revision, peace and unity,” she concluded.
LAPD Chief McDonnell said that the top priority in his department is public safety in a peaceful way, but that would not happen without Angelenos’ cooperation. He also repeated Mayor Bass’ message to anyone intended to be violent.

“We are closely monitoring development and strategically deploying resources and personnel to protect public safety while protecting the constitutional rights of all individuals who peacefully protest,” Prime Minister McDonnell said. “Let me be very clear. If you are in Los Angeles today and are here to hear your voice through a peaceful demonstration, we are here to protect you. But if you intend to commit a crime, damage your property, or hurt other people, including our officers, you will be arrested.”
“We do not allow violence or lawlessness that risks our lives in the city of Los Angeles,” he added. “Violence and destruction don’t make your voice louder… They’ll distract you from your cause. Ensure that the focus stays with the message, not the mayhem.”
