A Maserati driver was shot multiple times by Los Angeles police after he opened fire on officers Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The incident started as a domestic violence call, escalated into a police pursuit, and then a gunfight.
Police said the shooting occurred near the 3000 block of West Boulevard in West Adams. The suspect was taken to the hospital.
A female bystander was also shot in the arm and taken to the hospital, Police Chief Jim McDonnell said at a news conference Tuesday, but said her injuries were not life-threatening. It is unclear whether she was shot by police or the suspect.
Footage taken by a KTLA TV news helicopter showed a gunman getting out of a white Maserati, walking toward officers and firing with two handguns. A gunfight ensued.
A police chase ended in a shootout between Los Angeles police and the driver of a possible stolen vehicle, authorities said.

McDonnell said LAPD responded to a call of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence assault at 12:17 p.m. at Guffey Street and 19th Street in San Pedro. Police said the victim was the driver of a Dash bus and was being followed by a 38-year-old man in a white Maserati.
Officers stopped the suspect on the northbound 110 Freeway and exited the vehicle to investigate, McDonnell said. The driver then sped away and police pursued him.
The pursuit continued through Inglewood and into South Los Angeles, where the Maserati crossed onto the wrong side of the road, forcing the driver to swerve to avoid a collision, police said.
The chase ended around 1 p.m., when the driver stopped in a parking lot behind an apartment building in West Adams. He was walking down the driveway toward the front of the building where officers were stationed, McDonnell said.
“The suspect, who was in the driveway, pulled out two guns, one in each hand, and fired shots at the officers,” McDonnell said. “The officers returned fire and struck the suspect. The suspect was on the ground.”
Officers then approached the suspect, secured the firearm, and administered aid. First responders placed the suspect on a stretcher and transported him to the hospital.
The clash between police and suspects occurred around 1 p.m.

According to KTLA, three women were also seen being led away in handcuffs by officers, but it was not immediately clear if they were connected to the chase.
