Los Angeles protesters have been arrested on suspicion of being lit up by CHP vehicles

The Los Angeles man was arrested Friday when a California highway patrol patrol vehicle allegedly set fire to the ice attack during a protest, officials confirmed.

It happened Sunday after more than 1,000 demonstrators took over 101 highway lanes, according to the CHP.

Officials said the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Adam Palermo, was seen throwing rocks from the elevated tracks at CHP officials and vehicles.

After throwing the rock, CHP said he would take what Palermo was only described as an “object”, light it up with fire before dropping it onto the CHP patrol vehicle beneath him. The object landed on the cruiser and rose above the flames.

“To put out the fire,” the CHP said, “Officers had to be put at risk from the rocks and bottles that were thrown.”

The CHP detective, who was later assigned to the case, spoke to the public and identified Palermo as the suspect.

“The California Highway Patrol will not tolerate attacks on officers under any circumstances,” said CHP Commissioner Shawn Dury. “Our staff have put themselves in harm’s way to protect their citizens. Anyone who targets them with violence is identified, pursued and fully accountable under the law.”

On Friday morning, detectives arrested Palermo outside his home and eventually booked him for deadly weapon assault on a peace officer during the June 8 protest. After his arrest, the CHP said detectives searched his home and found more evidence of the crime.

“In California, violent and intentional attacks against law enforcement are not tolerated,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said of Palermo’s arrest. “We are grateful to the state investigators and law enforcement agencies who have tracked down this suspect and continue to support the rule of law.”

The CHP said the lawsuit is still under investigation and will be filed with the LA County District Attorney’s Office when completed, potential charges will be filed with the LA County District Attorney’s Office to file potential charges, including a deadly weapon attack on peace officers, arson and vandalism.
