The Los Angeles Public Library announced that it would close three branches Monday to ensure “patrons and staff safety” as protests against Trump administration’s immigration crackdown are expected to continue in the week.
Central Library, Chinatown and Little Tokyo branches will be closed on Monday,” the Library System posted on X. Thank you for your understanding. ”
The library’s decision comes after a violent weekend protest in downtown Los Angeles.

According to video footage, the looters were seen destroying the glass front door at a T-Mobile store on South Broadway and leaving the business just after midnight on Monday. Armed officers also responded to reports that they had been looted at the Adidas store near 8th Avenue and Broadway.
Police reported 42 arrests after Sunday’s protests became violent. This includes 199 cases by the California Highway Patrol.
The protest broke out Friday after immigration and customs enforcement took place in the city and surrounding communities. The demonstration was largely peaceful, but there was tension on Saturday and Sunday.
