The Los Angeles Public Library continues to provide essential support to immigrant families through its immigration initiative. It is a program designed to provide guidance, advice and key resources to those seeking to normalize the state of immigration or fully integrate into society.
“This space is where people who need to adjust their immigration status may be able to bring confidence to receive immigration services,” said librarian Hilda Guerrero.
Since its launch in 2012, the library system, including locations in the Central Library, Pacoima, Juniperocera, Piopico Koreatown, Benjamin Franklin, Echo Park and Wilmington, has been an important resource for the immigrant community and has provided free assistance with access to immigration procedures, legal advice and educational resources.
“You can register for citizenship classes. You can also renew your citizenship applications, general consultations, and even residency, work permits,” Guerrero added.
In an age of growing uncertainty, these services can become more important than ever.
With Donald Trump returning to presidency, demand for these immigrant resources has increased dramatically. Migrant families are turning to libraries for support and guidance in an age when immigration policies could become more restrictive.
Beyond being a place of consultation, the library system serves as a safe shelter where you can get reliable information and schedule appointments with a professional immigration advisor.
“The space is private and you can schedule an appointment to talk to the experts. Your information will remain confidential. There’s no need to worry,” Guerrero said. “Come, call, and make an appointment.”
As concerns within the immigrant community grow, the Los Angeles Public Library will reaffirm its commitment to contribution as a beacon of hope and support, allowing everyone to access the support they need to navigate the immigration process with greater confidence and security.
