Yelp recently ranked the top 50 fried chicken restaurants in the US and Canada, with local chains taking the top spot.
The Howlin Rays, which launched as a food truck in 2015 and later opened brick and mortar locations in Chinatown, Pasadena and Las Vegas, has been named the No. 1 fried chicken spot, according to the Yelp Elite Squad, a collection of active Yelp members.
Members of Yelp Elite Squad described Howlin Rays as “a legendary spot known for offering Nashville-style hot chicken that attracts crowds for its fiery flavour and crispy, juicy perfection.
This chain is famous for its spicy heat levels. This ranges from the country, which is a regular fried chicken, to Howling.
Another LA-based eatery that fell below the top 10 was Daybird, a popular eatery specializing in spicy Sichuan-style fried chicken sandwiches.
The rankings are based on the best reviews and ratings of all time from members of Yelp Elite Squad. To qualify, as of June 2, 2025, companies had to fall into the fried chicken category and open.
