Perfect weather Sunday morning brought hundreds of people to Woodley Park in the San Fernando Valley for the SRLA Endurance Run.
SRLA (Students Run LA) is a program that creates opportunities for students from 190 schools in the LA metropolitan area to train for and ultimately run the Los Angeles Marathon.
The SRLA website states that 600 volunteer teachers help train more than 3,200 students of all backgrounds and abilities.

Sunday’s Endurance Run, which raised money for students hoping to run the marathon, consisted of a 9.3-mile 15K run and a 5K Fun Run. A virtual run was also set up for those unable to attend in person.
KTLA 5’s Erin Myers spoke to a student named Gabriella, a senior at Nathaniel Narbonne High School in Harbor City. She has already participated in two marathons and is enjoying her experience at SRLA for a variety of reasons.
“It’s a really unique experience, especially as a high school student, because I never expected a high school student to run a marathon,” she said. “But I think this is really interesting…It’s something new and it really motivates you to take it one step at a time to the next day and try to be better than you were before.”
SRLA Endurance Run participants line up to register on November 17, 2024.
Not only that, Gabriela says SRLA helps her focus in school and motivate her to succeed at the next level.
“It’s very helpful not only in the classroom but also outside to improve concentration at school.” [the classroom] Because it really helps with goal setting and confidence over time. At the end of the day, it’s all what I want to do. ”
