Pride Month’s Wind Down is actually one of the nation’s most historic pride celebrations taking place in an iconic location in Los Angeles.
It can be synonymous with celebrations of music, atmosphere and pride, and will take you through the joy of adding an unparalleled fusion of culture, context and community. It is the pride of the black people in the city of angels.
“West Hollywood wasn’t necessarily that welcoming, and you’re not in the majority of the people, or there were events,” said Patrick Inn Polk, who has been at Los Angeles Black Pride for decades. “And so, what Black Pride gave us was an opportunity for fellowship among ourselves, like some of the majority.”

Los Angeles Black Pride has been celebrated on the weekend of July 4th since 1988.
“When traditional pride was celebrated, we weren’t celebrated, so a group of people from the ’80s came together to deliberately celebrate us,” Anthony said.
Anthony has been at the helm of the celebrations for 11 years and helped him take it over from the Beach Party to a gorgeous 7-event celebration of four days.
Includes community markets, block parties and pool parties above Los Angeles Black Pride’s historic Catch One and the Abbey weekend party. Focusing on the amplification of black artisans, musicians and creatives, the event really sparked a cultural phenomenon.
“I was in the crowd and I was impressed by the idea, I was about this community, black people, gays, sex, the city, and it was black pride, and it was where the show was essentially born,” Polk is a writer and director.
The Pork show is “Noah’s Ark.” After 20 years, two seasons and a new film, Shaw and Polk will win the LA Pride Community Legacy Award. The event will take place from Thursday to Sunday.
Who is being invited?
“If you want to support, and if you know, if you stand for us as black, queer, trans people, for us, then we invite everyone, right?” Anthony says.
