A funeral was held to honor the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Detective who was killed in a high-speed chase in Victorville.
Lovers and colleagues met at the Ontario Convention Centre on Thursday morning to honor the life of 36-year-old Hector Quebus Jr.
“He had an extraordinary talent to inspire those around him, but he never showed judgment or exclusion,” said Liz Quebas, Hector’s mother.

“To know Hector is to know how deeply he loved his wife Mia and worshiped his children Noel and Cairo,” said Jordan Bell, an Ontario police officer.
On March 17th, Hector tried to pull a suspect who was driving a stolen car.
Suspect Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., 22, handed over the Quevas in the pursuit and refused to lead. Turner ran through the red light and drove recklessly, causing Chase to reach speeds of over 100 mph, authorities said.
Shortly before 11am, Hector crashed into an uninvolved vehicle at the intersection of Elvado and Seneca roads. The powerful shock split his SUV in half and knocked down nearby power lines. Hector was declared dead at the scene.
The sedan woman who collided with Hector was rushed to the hospital for treatment and survived. The suspect, Turner, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, and he pleaded not guilty.
Court records show Turner’s criminal history includes several arrests and convictions for stealing the car. In 2024 he stole a vehicle in Rialto, leading the police and provided time to lead police in chases that reached speeds of over 90 mph before ending in a crash.
“This is not the first time Mr Turner escaped when he was caught in a stolen car,” said San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson at a March 19 press conference.

On April 17, loved ones gathered at the funeral to honor Hector, the young father of two children, a six-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.
“When Junior chose to become a sheriff, I have to admit, our hearts were filled with a mixture of pride and concern,” Liz said at the funeral. “Junior didn’t just choose a job, he chose a mission, which is a better way to leave the world than he found.”
Friends and colleagues described Hector as a man who loved sports and his community, but he was the father who spent time with his family and brought him the most joy.
An audio message from his two children was, “I love you, daddy. You are my hero and I miss you.”
