Republican Maine Sen. Laurel Libby says he is not going to remove social media posts about biological men competing in women’s sports, despite being criticized by the state legislature for refusing to apologize.
The Maine Democrat majority passed a denial resolution 75-70 votes after Libby apologized Tuesday night with a 75-70 vote. As a result of the accusations, Libby is no longer allowed to speak on the floor of the house or on the vote.
“At this point, we’re looking for options, because we don’t think this censorship is constitutional,” Libby told Fox News Digital. “I don’t apologize for telling the truth and speaking for the main girl. There’s more to come as I explore these options.”

Libby did not reveal specific details about her plans to find a way around her accusations without issuing an apology, but Libby said she intends to “utilize” the fact that Republicans only lost their chance to revive the majority of the Maine home with just 60 votes in November. Since 2019, the Maine Legislature and the governor’s office have been occupied by Democrats.
“This sets a very dangerous precedent that someone can silence for a social media post,” Libby said Wednesday. “It’s a terrible and dangerous path that goes down, and that’s why I’m looking at all the options, because it can’t stand it.”
Libby defended the post of imagery for a Maine high school athlete. Maine high school athletes took first place in the women’s pole vault at the Maine Class B-state indoor championship last week. The image includes photographs of athletes who are transgender women who competed in the previous year and identified them as men. The premise of Libby’s accusations by the Main House focused on the fact that she posted a photo of the minor and provided the name of the minor.

During the vote Tuesday night, Libby tried to protect herself, but was repeatedly suspended by Democrats. Libby was told her defense, which highlighted the importance of protecting women in sports, was not related to immediate issues. It was her decision to post photos of the minors on social media.

“Some of my colleagues who were allowed to speak last night and were not as vigorously silent as me were able to articulate that this was the right to the First Amendment and the right to free speech,” Libby said.
