LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Walgreens announced plans to close five Southern California stores by late March, citing “increasing regulatory and reimbursement pressures.”
The closures include Whittier, Los Angeles, Orange, Placentire and Stanton locations in Downtown.
In a statement, the company said these “pressures” had affected its ability to cover costs related to rent, staffing and supply.
As a result, approximately 93 employees could be affected.

“Closing a store is not an easy decision,” said Marty Maloney, director of media relations at Walgreens. “We know that our stores are important to the community we serve, and we will do everything we can to improve the performance of our stores. We need closures. If that’s the case, we work together with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruption.”
Last year, Walgreens announced its “Footprint Optimization Program.” The plan includes closing around 1,200 stores over three years. The company said about 500 of these closures will occur in 2025.
