A Malibu man who briefly barricaded himself in his home after allegedly firing shots at Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies was arrested Friday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m. Friday, the department received a call about shots fired in the Carbon Canyon area of Malibu, said Lt. Ronald Crump, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department shift commander.

Officers arrived at the scene in the 22000 block of Carbon Mesa Road about 10 minutes after the initial call, and “the suspect fired at them, nearly killing one officer,” Klumpp said.
After the shooting, the suspect briefly barricaded himself in a house on the property where he lived, Klumpp said. A sheriff’s helicopter arrived and repeated calls over a loudspeaker for the suspect to surrender, Crump said.
“After a short period of time, he safely got outside, put down his gun, and surrendered to deputies without incident,” Klumpp said. The suspect has not been announced.
Klumpp said the suspect is expected to be charged with three counts of attempted murder of a peace officer. Klumpp said the suspect was taken to a local hospital before being booked and treated for “superficial wounds.”
“I don’t know how it happened. It happened of his own volition inside his home,” Klumpp said, adding that the injury was treated.
The suspect’s motive remains unclear.
