The city of Malibu was accepting grant applicants in May from small businesses affected by recent natural disasters, including the Palisade fire in May, officials said.
This week, Malibu City Council lit green light on the creation of a micro-stabilization grant program for small businesses to provide grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000.
The program earns its first $300,000 from the city’s general fund.
“The program is designed to provide immediate and flexible financial support to independently owned businesses within the city’s restrictions,” the city said in a statement.
The application will be accepted until May 31, and awarded businesses are permitted to cover numerous eligible expenses for funding, including rent, pay, repairs and other recovery-related expenses.
To qualify, in addition to demonstrating financial difficulties and public interest to the Malibu community, businesses must obtain a valid business license within the city of Malibu’s city limits.
