Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District administrative officials announced the closure of four campuses on Monday due to dangerous road conditions and school access challenges.
“We are in contact with the City of Malibu, Lost Hills Sheriff’s Captain, Superintendent Lindsey Horvath’s office, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works,” officials said in an email to parents, guardians and staff. . “Based on road updates and warnings, issues with mudslides and continued rain, the decision has been made to close the school tomorrow with the safety of our students and staff as our top priority.”
The four campuses closed include:
Webster Elementary School Malibu Elementary School Malibu Middle School Malibu High School
The email further said parents and staff have heard from the school’s principal about “continuities in learning to engage with students while schools are closed.”
Officials said they are continuing to monitor the situation and will communicate with people in the district tomorrow regarding plans for Tuesday.
All Santa Monica school campuses are open on Mondays.
