Newou can listen to Fox News articles!
New York City’s socialist mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani tried to distance himself from previous anti-political rhetoric on Wednesday, with New York-elected staff and crime experts saying Fox News Digital was the equivalent of LIP services.
Mamdani has long criticised the New York Police Department and has sought a refund in 2020. He frequently called it “racist” and said that the department’s strategic response groups should be disbanded. In another social media post, Mamdani posted “Nature is healing” in response to comments about laughing at a police officer crying in his car.
But Mamdani said his call to reimburse police was created out of “frustration” over the death of George Floyd’s death after a shooting in midtown Manhattan.
His comments were unsure that he had plated the pages truly with the belief that he was truly turning the pages from his rivalry to the police and that the city was politically driven to blow the city away from the worst massive shooting of a half-century.
Unearthed Mamdani Clip reveals how his upbringing opened up to being called “radical”
Mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani of New York City will speak to the media at 32BJ SEIU headquarters following the massive shooting in Manhattan that claimed the lives of police officers and others at the New York Police Station (NYPD) in Manhattan, New York, on July 30, 2025.
“Zohran ‘Nature Is Healing’ Mamdani’s Wednesday presser struck me as a cynical and transparent attempt at damage control in response to an incident that served as a violent and somber reminder to New Yorkers of the enormous daily risks taken on their behalf by the men and women of the NYPD,” Rafael Mangual, senior fellow and head of research for policy and public safety at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, told Fox News Digital.
Mangual explained that Mamdani’s explanation of his previous statements had not progressed well.
“However, even under the tragic circumstances in which the press conference was held, Mamdani balked multiple opportunities to explicitly retract or apologise for his long history of anti-political statements,” Munger wrote in the New York Post at Mandani’s press conference.
“When he faced past statements, he appeared defensive and found a way to repeat previous criticisms of the very unit that led the response to Monday evening mass shootings in Midtown.
New York City Republican Congressman Inna Vernikov, an outspoken critic of Mamdani, told Fox News Digital that Mamdani’s press conference showed no respect for voters.
“He has hit the NYPD for many years and promoted a radical agenda, but he ultimately realized that the city doesn’t want our police officers and a socialist mayor, so he’s competing for the center,” Valikov said. “No one who has half the brains buys it.”
Mamdani’s colleague, New York Republican State Sen. Jake Blumenkrantz, told Fox News Digital that Mamdani’s press conference was a “political theatre.”
“Let’s not rewrite history,” Blumenkrantz said. “While police officers and innocent New Yorkers were murdered in New York City, Zoran Mamdani was not even in town. He was in a well-protected compound in Uganda.
The deadliest New York shooting of decades will become the central stage for mayoral races as candidates refrain from public safety

Blumencranz said Mamdani, whom he called “absentee colleagues,” had built a “law enforcement demon campaign,” which became his “brand.”
“He said the NYPD was “wicked and corrupted.” “We’re going to dismantle it. Dismantle it. We pushed to end the cycle of violence and disband the very units that responded to the shooting,” Blumencranz said. “Now, after major victory and massive shooting tragedy, he wants voters to believe his belief is “out of step.” This is not growth, it is not a political theatre.
Fox News Digital has contacted the Mamdani campaign for comments.
Mamdani attended the funeral on Thursday of Didalur Islam, a NYPD officer killed in a shooting in midtown Manhattan.
Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Swawa, former governor Andrew Cuomo, and current New York mayor Eric Adams, both run as independents but were present.

Mamdani spoke enthusiastically about the Islamic officer at a press conference on Wednesday, meeting with the officer’s family and answering questions about his previous calls to refund the police.
“I’m not running to refund the police,” Mamdani says, “meaning that candidates who are not pinned in time, candidates who learn, and some of them have grown.
