The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said a man suspected of murdering his parents in Louisiana was arrested near Culver City just before the weekend.
Joshua Brokart, 34, was sought in connection with the murder of 66-year-old Priscilla Brokart and her father, Mark Brokart, 75. The couple was found dead at a Louisiana home during a welfare check.
The couple’s son was immeasurable and he was sought as an interested person. Following the autopsy of the deceased, the Tangipa Hoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) issued an arrest warrant for Joshua in two counts of murder.
TPSO believes the victim was shot dead between March 31 and April 1, and it said it suspects Joshua had fled to California within three days of his death. The motive for the shooting is unknown.
Southern California law enforcement agencies were notified of the crime, and representatives at LASD’s Marina del Ray Station found a van that matches Joshua’s description, parked in the 5400 block of Fairfax Avenue.
Deputies carried out a traffic stop on the van and placed Joshua in custody. Law enforcement has discovered several loaded firearms and body armor on the suspect’s property.
LASD is currently working on TPSO and returning it to Louisiana. Anyone with information about the case will be asked to contact a criminal investigation at 985-902-2088 or at the Louisiana State Police Suspicious Activities Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.
