Authorities have identified the 22-year-old man accused of the death of Baldwin Park police officer Samuel Liberos in Saturday’s shootout.
Eduardo Roberto Medina Belomen was in hospital detention, but it was not immediately clear when he would appear in court.
Medina Belomen was injured in a shootout with police before he was arrested, and the LA County Sheriff’s Office said he was in custody in lieu of $4 million bail.
Medina-Berumen’s name was not featured in the initial search of district court or prison records, and several law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation said they were unaware of previous arrests or convictions, but were still examining his background.
Neighbors said Medina Belomen lived with her family in a home in the 4200 block of Philhurst Avenue.
The murder detective said Medina Bellmen shot a man outside the house and then fired on officers as soon as he arrived at the scene using a rifle.
Images from the scene showed a bullet hole in the windshield of one police car.
Anthony A. Pimentel, a police officer injured in the shootout, was treated from the hospital on Sunday and released.
The victim of the first murder described by a medical inspector in LA County is a man in his 40s who has not been made public.
