Police arrested a man on Monday who was accused of driving an SUV that hit a 21-year-old woman marching in a “no Kings” protest on Riverside. She remains hospitalized in a dangerous state.
Russell Prentiss, 58, of Riverside, has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a fatal weapon and hit-and-run injury, Riverside Police Department said Tuesday. He was booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
Kandasewenzel was also arrested. The 39-year-old Riverside woman has been accused of taking an SUV over 30 miles away to a remote, unequipped area of Phelan in the Mojave Desert, and “deliberately destroying and covering up evidence,” the police department said.
Prentiss is said to have marched along University Avenue between Orange Street and Main Street and fled after driving a black SUV towards a crowd of protesters striking a woman around 9:10pm on Saturday. Police have not identified the victim, but the woman who called herself a friend and created the GoFundMe page identified her as Alexa Carrasco.
“She was rushing to the hospital,” wrote friend Leslie Hernandez, who was in intensive care for “life-threatening injuries.” Hernandez told the Times Monday that Carrasco is in danger in the intensive care unit but is stable.
Carrasco’s friends told KCAL-TV that he not only had cracked ribs, lung holes and fractured bones cracked, but he also suffered severe skull injuries.
