A small wildfire broke out in Griffith Park on Monday afternoon, and although firefighters appeared to quickly get the situation under control, the fire appears to have been started intentionally.
The fire was reported at 162 Griffith Park just after 1 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said in an alert. The address is directly below the Griffith Observatory.

“1/2 acre of light grass has spread to medium brush on the slope. Firefighters on scene are working quickly to contain the flames,” fire officials said.
Aerial footage from Sky5 showed the blaze was largely under control by about 1:30 p.m.
Fire officials said in an update that the fire was contained in 31 minutes and did not spread beyond four acres.
According to the latest information, “all threatened structures were successfully defended and there was no damage.”
Later, Los Angeles Police Department said a witness spotted a young man in the 2700 block of Glendower Avenue setting himself on fire and leaving.
Officers arrested the man, who was apparently a transient, and took him to the station. His identity has not been disclosed.
Footage shared with KTLA showed a suspected suspect being loaded into the back of a police car.
