Culver City Police say officers arrested a man Friday morning who attacked a father and his young daughter “for no apparent reason.”
Officers responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon at Ocean Drive and Westwood Boulevard around 9:28 a.m., the department said.
According to preliminary information, the father told responding officers that he and his daughter were exercising along the La Valona Creek bike path when a man appeared and began “vigorously brandishing a knife” at the father. said.
Officers said neither the victim nor her daughter were injured and were able to flee from the attackers. Authorities did not immediately identify the family or the suspect.
“Police searched the scene and quickly located the suspect in the Culver City Middle School parking lot adjacent to the pedestrian bridge and took him into custody without incident,” the department’s release states.
Officials said there were no students present at the time of the incident because it was winter break.

The suspect reportedly threw away the knife used in the attack shortly before being taken into custody, but officers recovered it at the scene.
“The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Culver City Jail,” the release concludes.
