Berkeley police have arrested a 45-year-old San Francisco man in connection with a series of recent shootings on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, officials announced.
The man, whose name has not been released, was arrested Friday morning at a private residence in San Francisco on multiple charges, including assault on another person with a firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm.
The man was found with an arsenal of weapons, including an assault rifle, handgun and ammunition, according to a media release from the Berkeley Police Department.
A Berkeley police statement said shortly after midnight on Oct. 26, officers “responded to a series of shootings in the south campus area,” but did not provide details about the nature or location of the gunman’s incidents. Not yet. motive, or whether harm was done to anyone.
Berkeley police said they identified the suspect through interviews with witnesses, a review of surveillance video, and the use of ShotSpotter and automatic license plate recognition technology. The ministry did not respond to requests for comment.
The University of California, Berkeley, the City of San Francisco, the East Bay Regional Park Police Department, and the Berkeley and San Francisco fire departments provided assistance, according to a statement from the Berkeley Police Department.
The incident remained under investigation until Saturday morning.
