A 25-year-old man accused of fatally shooting two security guards at a Target store in downtown Los Angeles in late December has been charged with multiple crimes, including attempted murder, authorities announced Friday.
“This morning, my office filed felony charges against a man accused of attempting to shoplift from a Target store, then escalating into an assault that resulted in gunfire that injured two security guards, one seriously. ” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Hochman. Said. “This type of brazen theft and violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Los Angeles County.”
The prosecutor’s office has identified Jabrill Andrew Metoyer, of Los Angeles, as the suspect in the Dec. 30 violent incident in the 700 block of South Figueroa Street.

Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Raul Jobel said that after the shooting, two security guards, one of whom was armed, exchanged gunfire with the assailant. At least 10 shots were fired between the two sides, hitting several walls.
“My thoughts are with the injured security guards and their families during this difficult time. I want them and all residents to use every available resource to bring justice to those who committed such heinous acts. I want to make sure we take advantage of it,” Hochman said Friday.
In addition to the Dec. 30 incident, Metoyer is suspected of fatally shooting a man three days earlier near 7th and Figueroa streets in downtown Los Angeles after he refused to hand over money, the prosecutor’s office said. .
Metoyer is charged with three counts of attempted murder, four counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery, prosecutors said. He also faces special charges of personal use of a firearm and personal discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury.
If convicted as charged, Metoyer could face life in state prison.
