A man died at a hospital Sunday, six days after he was shot multiple times in a Riverside County shooting, authorities said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Rene Diaz, 42, of Elsinore.
According to preliminary reports, Perris Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of Spectacular Bid Street shortly before midnight on Dec. 23 to conduct an assault with a deadly weapon.
The sheriff’s office said they arrived at the residential area and found Diaz suffering from what was only described as “multiple gunshot wounds.”
Details are limited, and authorities did not immediately say where Diaz was shot or where he was found.
“Deputies provided medical assistance and requested the dispatch of paramedics to the scene,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Diaz was transported to a local hospital for treatment and remains in critical condition.”
Diaz remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries on December 29.
The sheriff’s office announced that as of Sunday night, Central Homicide detectives had no suspects in custody.
“As this is an active investigation, no further information will be released at this time,” officials said.
Authorities encourage anyone with information related to this investigation to contact Detective D. Brown or Chief Investigator D. Robertson of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
