This year, a convicted robber who was at least the ninth person from a California prisoner re-entry program facility was captured in Las Vegas.
Dijon Barber was discovered on April 12, almost two weeks after leaving the re-entry program for Los Angeles County’s male community, according to the California Department of Amendments and Rehabilitation. Barber had sentenced four years in prison for theft/embezzlement from an elderly or dependent adult, or for theft/embezzlement from an adult at the county’s re-entry program facility.

The day before the barber escaped, Deshon Daniels was arrested in Los Angeles after quitting his re-entry program.
CDCR, which oversees the prison program, was unable to contact us on Saturday for comments. Thousands of people have experienced the programme 10 years ago. It is part of a wider national push to rehabilitate people who have been imprisoned beyond punishment and reduce recidivism.
Most of those who have escaped since January are being pursued.
On Friday, prison officials announced that Barber had been arrested by a North Las Vegas detective arrest team.
There was no details about how Barber was caught up in more than 250 miles away or what he was doing in Sin City, but authorities said he was ‘safely taken into custody’.
To consider a re-entry program, an individual must have up to 32 months and more than 60 days prior to the initial release date. LA County has three facilities that house these programs, and other facilities in Fresno, Butte, Kern and San Diego counties. The state plans to expand its program, so it is serving all counties by this summer.
“The goal of this program is to help participants successfully re-enter the community from incarceration and contribute to reducing re-offending,” the CDCR said on its website.
Barber was booked to the Nevada County Jail and sent back to California, where authorities said he would be placed at the CDCR agency. His case has been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to consider the escape charge, according to the CDCR.
