Animal Services Group is seeking help from the public in identifying a man caught in a camera that dumped an injured cat in a trash can in Orange County.
Mission Viejo Animal Services posted surveillance footage of the man on its social media page. The caption of the post states that the incident occurred Monday at 7:20pm near the 25,000 block of Cabot Road in Laguna Hills.
Veterinary office staff were reported the following day about an injured cat inside a trash can at the back of a shopping centre near Cabot and La Paz road.
“The cat was found for 15 hours [after it was dumped] And just minutes before the trash cans are scheduled to be collected,” Animal Services said. “The cat suffering from obvious trauma was immediately taken to a local veterinary clinic for evaluation and treatment.”

Investigators with animal control in Orange County began investigating the incident and were able to view footage later posted by the Animal Services Group. In it, you can see them driving an SUV behind a car park with businesses near the trash cans, collecting bags and dumping their contents into a dumpster before leaving the car.
The injured cat named Willow by MVAS staff was seen in a video of him moving away from the man before he stomped him away.

Willow is said to be recovering, showing “immense affection” to the vets who care for her, and a dedicated animal welfare group ensures that she has received the medical care she needs.
In the wake of what MVAS calls “a meaningless abandonment act,” veterinarians are now seeking help in identifying either the video or the original owner of the cat.
“The suspect’s vehicle looks like a light blue or grey 2022-2024 Volkswagen Tiguan or a similar small SUV,” reads the MVAS post.
Anyone with information will be asked to contact Mission Viejo Animal Services by calling 949-470-3045.
